Career - Horse Trainer

Horse Trainers will carry out practical daily tasks, such as saddling, bridling, feeding and grooming horses and will accustom horses to racing equipment such as bridles, saddles, harnesses and sulkies (two-wheeled carriages). They will support the training of apprentice jockeys, drivers and track riders in horse riding or driving techniques and horse handling skills. They will supervise and direct stable staff, jockeys, harness drivers and other workers and also plan, supervise and carry out training programs for horses. They will plan and select race programs to achieve the best placing for a horse and also carry out nutritional programs for horses. They will monitor the health of the horses and consult veterinarians and farriers on injuries and ailments and advise and consult with horse owners. They will attend race meetings or other horse-related events and keep accurate records of accounts and use correct credit procedures.
