Council Workers will prepare foundations for new roads and lay and level surface material. They will prepare sites for new operational works and put up safety signs and direct traffic through the construction area. They will construct footpaths, lay paving stones or bricks and lay new kerbs and dig trenches for drainpipes and lay pipes accurately into position, then backfill and compact trenches and replace disturbed surfaces. They will measure and work out roadwork materials that will unblock water, stormwater and sewerage pipes. They will construct and maintain water reticulation services and sewage collection systems and also maintain and tidy parks, gardens, nature strips and road edges, which involves general garden maintenance, removing weeds, pruning and tree planting. They will maintain roads, pavements and bridges and assist with garbage disposal and collection and drive trucks and operate equipment such as mowers, backhoes, graders, loaders and rollers.
