Cooks will check food to ensure its quality and regulate temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment. They will prepare food for cooking and cook food using a range of methods (baking, braising, frying, roasting or steaming, for example). They will divide food into portions and ensure it is well presented and will clean food preparation areas and equipment. They will store food in temperature-controlled facilities and will receive and store supplies. They will ensure the kitchen is hygienic and functional and will plan menus and estimate food requirements. They will prepare food to meet special dietary requirements and will train and supervise other staff.
