Chefs will plan menus and determine food and labour costs. They will recruit and train staff and will plan staff rosters and supervise the activities of cooks and assistants. They will discuss food preparation issues with managers, dietitians and other staff members and will order food, kitchen supplies and equipment. They will demonstrate techniques to cooks and advise on cooking procedures and will prepare and cook food. They will explain and enforce hygiene regulations and will freeze and preserve foods.
