Career - Aquaculture Farmer

Acquaculture Farmers will plan and manage the operation of hatcheries and will transport fish and other aquatic stock to new tanks or beds. They will check and maintain water quality to maintain health standards and optimal growing conditions and will identify and control toxins and diseases. They will check stock growth rates to determine when to harvest and direct and oversee the harvesting, grading and packaging of fish and other aquatic stock. They will organise the sale, purchase and transportation of fish and aquatic stock and will maintain and study records of farming activities, keep an eye on market activity and plan production accordingly. They will manage business capital, including budgeting, taxation, debt and loan management and will manage quality and production to meet customers' needs and identify new business opportunities. They will manage the marketing of the farm's produce and maintain business contacts and will select, train and supervise staff and contractors.
