Career - Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Health Worker

Islander Health Workers will treat diseases or injuries and will maintain health records and statistics. They will act as a communicator and/or interpreter on behalf of clients and other health workers. They will take part in case management and follow-up, independently or with other healthcare providers and provide health education to individual clients and health staff. They will provide cultural education to people outside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and will provide life skills education to the community they serve. They will be in charge of providing counselling and referrals for problem cases and also will contribute to the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all health programs in the community and will also carry out administrative duties, including budgeting and correspondence.
