The University of Colorado Denver was formed on January 11, 1973, lawmakers, upon proclamation of the governor, amend that state constitution to establish additional CU campuses, transforming the University of Colorado - Denver Center into the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver). In 1977, CU Denver students began taking classes on the Auraria campus.Today, the university educates more than 15,000 students and is the only public urban research institution in the state of Colorado.CU Denver offers more than 100 academic degrees and programs to ensure students learn with purpose and find a fulfilling career. Students can choose from 52 master’s programs, 13 doctoral programs and many certificate programs to help themselves advance professionally and achieve success in today’s competitive workplace. It is known for its programs in urban sustainability, criminal justice, business, education, applied science and engineering, film and music industry as well as a full array of professional health programs.
Designed by internationally recognized architect Helmut Jahn, the library won a national Excellence-in-Design award just two years after opening. Today, the LEED-certified library houses 280 million electronic resource records, 140,000 ebooks, 60,000 ejournals and 650,000 print books. Student organizations, clubs, leadership retreats, cultural events, intramurals, films, study groups ... at CU Denver, the list goes on and on. The university want students to know they belong—to feel connected and included. With more than 120 recognized student organizations, students are sure to find the group, or multiple groups, that match their interests. Also, starting an organization is easy. CU Denver campuses capitalize on the beauty and charm of the bustling metropolitan area located minutes away from the Rocky Mountains. Denver doesn’t just have something for everyone, it has a lot for everyone: a lot to do outdoors, a lot of culture, a lot of diversity and a lot of opportunity.
