London South Bank University is a public university in Elephant and Castle, London. It is based in the London Borough of Southwark, near the South Bank of the River Thames, from which it takes its name. Founded in 1892 as the Borough Polytechnic Institute, it achieved university status in 1992. It took them 100 years to achieve this status.
It is a cosmopolitan university with over 18,000 students drawn from over 130 countries. The University has been awarded Silver for teaching excellence under the Governments Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
