La Trobe is an integral part of Shepparton, with students studying at a campus located in the centre of town. In 2019, 78.9% of our graduates were employed regionally. Led by our Head of Campus, Elizabeth Capp, our campus community welcomes students from many cultures and countries. We are integral to the local workforce, with 87 per cent of our students staying and working locally. There are more than 1,900 La Trobe alumni living and working in the Mildura region. Led by Head of Campus, Sandy Connor, the Mildura Campus staff are dedicated to our students. Many donate a portion of their salaries towards the Mildura Staff Giving scholarships. Our staff are engaged in innovative and varied research, much of which is directly related to the local region. Our campus has a long and proud history in Mildura and La Trobe has many community champions. In 1993, the La Trobe University Regional Advisory Board was established with Brian Grogan as the founding chair. Our Benetook Avenue building is named after Brian, as he led a campaign for the establishment of the standalone site. As Victorias only state-wide university, La Trobe is deeply committed to its regional campuses. The La Trobe University Strategy for Regional Victoria was released in 2020 and details our strategic direction, as a multi-campus university. The Mildura Campus Plan outlines our local strategy and commitment to the region.

Our campus is located in Flora Hill, an easy 3km drive or bike ride from the Bendigo CBD. Were located next to Greater Bendigo National Park, which means even though we’re close to all the action of the city, you’ll often see kangaroos on campus! Take our virtual tour and see the extensive facilities on campus. The campus became an integral part of La Trobe in 1991, however the university and its antecedent organisations have been providing tertiary education in Bendigo for nearly 150 years. We have deep community connections and a Regional Advisory Board that enables local community members to provide advice on the strategic direction and local priorities of the campus.

In those early years, our campus shared some facilities with Wodonga TAFE, including the library, which is still shared today. Four years on, in mid-1995, The Michael J Osborne building was officially opened and the campus had its own home. Staff and students moved into the new buildings on the current site, 133 McKoy Street, Wodonga. The year 2000 saw the addition of the Health Sciences building and the David Mann Library followed soon after in 2002. In 2005, the Nancy F Millis Building was officially opened and in 2008, our campus café and student commons spaces were opened. McFarlane Hill Residences were added in 2012 providing an additional 28 beds to existing on-campus accommodation.
