About the course
The Doctor of Physiotherapy offers an innovative problem-based learning model of physiotherapy education to prepare entry level physiotherapists for their roles and responsibilities as first contact practitioners. The program integrates the clinical, pathological and related sciences with the physiotherapy knowledge, skills and professional behaviours and attitudes required to examine, diagnose and treat physiotherapy clients. The Doctor of Physiotherapy assists you to progressively develop and apply your knowledge, skills and professional attitudes and behaviour for physiotherapy practice and places a strong emphasis on clinical experiential learning with 50 per cent of the program undertaken in a clinical context. The first 30 weeks of clinical practice addresses five core areas in both hospital and community settings and one elective. Variable experiences across the lifespan are sought in the clinical areas of: Orthopaedics, Cardio-respiratory practice, Out-patient musculoskeletal practice (hospital or private practice settings), Neurological and ortho-geriatric rehabilitation (hospital and community settings), Chronic Disease and Disability, whether paediatric or adult in context, Paediatrics or women€™s / men€™s health, or private / sports practice. In the final semester, the program culminates in a 12-week clinical internship with an aligned research project. This extending clinical / research opportunity is designed to ensure graduates are well prepared for entry into the physiotherapy workforce. The Doctor of Physiotherapy comprises of 6 semesters (2 years), allowing graduates to complete their degree earlier and take the next step in their career sooner. Monash University is a public research university based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Named for prominent World War I general Sir John Monash, it was founded in 1958 and is the second oldest university in the state. The university has a number of campuses, four of which are in Victoria, and one in Malaysia. Monash also has a research and teaching centre in Prato, Italy, a graduate research school in Mumbai, India and a graduate school in Suzhou, China. Monash University courses are also delivered at other locations, including South Africa.

The campuses at Monash have student run clubs that organize fun activities, such as trips and social events. Monash also has student associations, which are made up of representatives elected by students and whose role is to liaise with the university to provide services, facilities and amenities around the campus. It gives students the chance to influence campus life and get involved in number of ways, such as writing for the student newspaper, joining a special interest club, and organising events like orientation week. From sports perspective, more than 600 Monash students compete at the Australian University Games every year. The students can also join a sports team to get involved in the social competitions or take classes in aerobics, martial arts, yoga, aquatics and cycling at the university gymnasium.
