With a rich history dating back to the late 1800s, the Gordon Institute of TAFE has evolved from its humble beginnings as a mechanics institute and night school for tradespeople to become a leading provider of quality vocational education and training. The Gordon Institute of TAFE emerged from the need for technical training during the industrial age of the late 1800s. Geelong, an industrial centre of growing importance, recognised the demand for skilled professionals to meet the challenges of a changing world.

Inspired by the heroic legacy of British General Charles Gordon, who dedicated his life to civic duty and education, the citizens of Geelong envisioned a vocational institute as a meaningful memorial. Thus in 1887, the Gordon opened its doors, starting with night classes for tradespeople in a single-storied hall.

Over the years, the Gordon has grown into an institution with four campuses, celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2017. Its strategic plan, spanning 2018-2021, outlines a clear direction for success in the dynamic tertiary education landscape. With a focus on financial sustainability, value proposition, delivery methodology, and a high-value workforce, Gordon remains committed to maintaining its proud tradition and history of great success. It is a wise option for international students to choose the Gordon Institute of TAFE for their vocational education and training opens a world of possibilities. At The Gordon, students will learn from industry-trained professionals who are passionate about their work and eager to share their expertise with you. Work placements and projects are integrated into the curriculum, giving students invaluable real-world experience and building their confidence.
