Geography and Environment is a dynamic and vibrant place to be a postgraduate research student, and we are proud of our reputation for creating a friendly and supportive working environment. Based within the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, academic staff in Geography and Environment are active researchers, working within and across disciplinary boundaries. The School is home to 130 postgraduates working closely with 100 specialist supervisors who are located in one of five main research areas: Communication and Media, Geography and Environment, Humanities, Politics and International Studies, Social and Policy Studies.. We have over 30 academic staff, who are all leading international experts in their fields. We have an excellent international reputation for our research across different areas of physical and human geography. In human geography some of the key themes our original research explores include migration, cities, education, and geographies of children, youth and families. In physical geography our research covers a wide range of cutting-edge topics including hydrological and ecosystem science, polar and alpine research, and the relationship between climate, water and energy.
