Students from Australia are accepted for this course

This programme contributes to graduates obtaining their Maritime New Zealand licence: Skipper Restricted Limits. This is the entry level Maritime New Zealand license for you to be able to operate as a Skipper of a small vessel. You need to complete the 18 week online course, and complete the Training Record Book and have 200 hours sea service before attending a block course on the Nelson campus. Choose from the list of block course dates available. With SRL, you can perform a skipper’s (master’s) functions and duties on passenger and non-passenger ships less than 12 metres length overall, carrying up to 19 passengers within restricted limits (which includes both enclosed and inshore limits) and on fishing vessels less than 12 metres length overall, in enclosed and inshore fishing limits. Once you have your SRL license, you can progress to larger vessels.
