The M.S. program in physiology and biophysics is designed to provide skills required for positions in academia, government and industry and as preparation for careers in medicine or dentistry. After completing coursework, students undertake a research project closely mentored by faculty. The goals are to develop proficiency in identifying scientific questions and forming hypotheses, conducting and interpreting experiments, synthesis and integration of scientific knowledge, and oral and written communication to potential audiences. Research projects address questions at the molecular, cellular, systems and translational level to understand physiological function and the causes and consequences of disease processes. Research areas include neuroscience, cardiovascular and GI physiology, cellular signaling, ion channels, and structural biology. Training with affiliate faculty in clinical departments is also available. Students can enter the M.S. program from the VCU SOM CERT program with credit for coursework or after completing a B.S. or B.A.
You must have successfully completed the Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) or/with full-time or equivalent, work experience in a relevant industry setting.Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted. If you dont meet the entry requirements, there may be other programs you are eligible for that can lead you to your preferred program.
