The M.S. degree program at the VCU School of Nursing provides an excellent learning experience that prepares nurses to become leaders in advanced clinical practice and/or systems administration. Future nurse practitioners and leaders are prepared with specialized knowledge and advanced practice skills to care for diverse patient populations with simple and complex health problems across the health-illness continuum in a variety of settings. We offer both a two-year and a three-year plan of study. NPs who wish to obtain a different NP certification may apply to the post-master’s certificate program. Students have the advantage of the state-of-the-art Clinical Learning Center where technical, communication and critical decision making skills are practiced safely in a simulated environment and students gain clinical/leadership experience in a host of clinical sites in the state. VCU’s interprofessional environment fosters the development of expertise in team-based, patient-centered health care, leadership and collaborative skills.
