Develop the knowledge of building design practice, methodologies and processes sought after by engineering and architectural design firms and contractors. Our masters introduces you to the challenges of managing building design processes and practices in industry. Using multidisciplinary approaches, you’ll learn how to balance conflicting design tensions in projects and integrate regulatory requirements with low-carbon certification and basic building physics. During the course, youll explore a range of areas including building physics, regulations and codes, sustainability and well-being standards. You’ll also study the relationship between Building Information Modelling (BIM) and collaborative integrated design management. Using dynamic digital modelling tools, youll apply your knowledge to optimise low-carbon building envelope solutions. Youll put theory into practice working on live project briefs with students from different construction-related disciplines. This challenges you to solve design problems in real time while gaining an insight into multidisciplinary collaboration. Combining your research dissertation with a three-month placement allows you to embed what you’ve learnt in a professional context. It also gives you the chance to deliver solutions to real industry problems posed by your company.
You must have successfully completed an UK Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) or/with full-time or equivalent, work experience in a relevant industry setting. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted. If you dont meet the entry requirements, there may be other programs you are eligible for that can lead you to your preferred program.
