Greece, Rome, and the Near-East were literary cultures. They privileged, examined and questioned, and parodied a remarkably diverse, sophisticated range of literary output. Our research investigates the dynamics of that ancient literary culture. Our expertise covers both classical Greek drama, as well Latin poetry and prose, Christian and pagan literature from the imperial period, as well the reception of classical literature in the modern and post-enlightenment worlds.Many of our students decide to take their studies on to doctoral level and we are very happy to provide mentoring and support if you decide to take this path. Of course a PhD isnt the only option available to you on completing our MA.During your time with us you will have a developed an excellent range of skills in logical thinking, interpreting, analysing and evaluating information, and communication. A range of options will be open to you, you might take a career path in a related area such as museum and cultural heritage work or teaching. The majority of students are based at our Streatham Campus. The campus is one of the most beautiful in the country and offers a unique environment in which to study, with lakes, parkland, woodland and gardens as well as modern and historical buildings. The centrepiece of Streatham Campus is the stunning Forum, which provides the Student Services Centre, a modern 24/7 library, technology-rich learning spaces, a 400-seat lecture theatre, the University’s reception, and retail and catering outlets. The city centre is only a 15-minute walk away so you can enjoy the advantages of a campus-based university without missing out on life in the city. The catered halls of residence and most of our purpose-built, self-catered flats are either on campus or nearby in the city centre, so you will have easy access to everything you will need.
