The Ph.D. program in physiology and biophysics is designed to provide skills required for positions in academia, government and industry. The program focuses on conducting an original research project closely mentored by faculty and developing proficiency in identifying scientific questions and forming hypotheses, experimental design and interpretation, synthesis and integration of scientific knowledge, and oral and written communication to potential audiences. State-of-the-art approaches are used to address questions at the molecular, cellular, systems and translational level and to understand physiological function and the causes and consequences of disease processes. Research areas of our internationally recognized faculty include neuroscience, cardiovascular and GI physiology, cellular signaling, ion channels, and structural biology. Training with affiliate faculty in clinical departments is also available.
