The D.N.P. degree program educates nurses for the highest level of nursing practice. VCU’s online post-master’s D.N.P. program emphasizes patient safety and quality improvement, leadership, health policy, and organizational systems. Our online format is geared toward the working nurse and can be completed in two years of full-time study or three years of part-time study. Students come to VCU three times per year at the beginning of each semester for a 2-3-day on-campus immersion; this time fosters networking and one-on-one time with faculty. With the increasing complexity of health care and the nationwide demand for more doctorally prepared nurses, graduates of VCU’s D.N.P. program will increase the number of expert nurses prepared to improve health care and health care systems, translate research into evidence-based practice and lead interprofessional teams in collaborative and dynamic environments to providing system level sustainable change.
