Nurse anesthesia is an advanced practice specialty committed to the delivery of safe, high-quality anesthesia care in a number of settings including hospitals, ambulatory care centers, pain management clinics and the offices of doctors and dentists. Overall employment for advanced practice nurses is projected to grow 26 percent from 2018 to 2028. The VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia offers the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) entry to practice, a degree that advances excellence in patient safety through teaching, scholarship, state-of-the-art simulation technology, continuing education, research and training. We prepare graduates who have acquired the essential knowledge, skills and competencies to fulfill their professional responsibility as CRNAs.
