The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claires ancient studies minor and certificate touches upon almost every field of human inquiry — from language to literature, to history, to politics, religion, medicine, science and more. Designed to enhance an appreciation and understanding of ancient languages, societies and cultures, the ancient studies program will help you to think more deeply about the human condition and the important issues in our lives. Coursework will strengthen your critical thinking abilities, primarily through language acquisition. Topics of study include grammar, translation, interpretation, text analysis, historical perspective and the influence of ancient civilizations. Students pursuing a career in health or law — or those simply interested in the evolution of ancient civilizations and their impact — will find minoring in ancient studies is to their advantage. To be awarded the ancient studies minor, students must be competent in a language other than English.
