The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claires certificate in Africana studies is designed for students interested in deepening their knowledge about African people, the African diasporic and African American lives. Curriculum throughout the program will enable you to examine the major historical events that have created and shaped the African diaspora, analyze the experiences and cultural products of people of African descent and contemporary issues faced by African Americans. The majority of the 12-credit certificate is made up of courses chosen by you, allowing you to personalize your studies and focus on the topics that most interest you. Study the evolution of jazz, learn more about the African American civil rights movement, examine feminist perspectives on various topics from an African American standpoint or better understand the Black lived experience in modern American society.
