The Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Studies degree equips students with a strong foundation in understanding emerging trends in cities and regions, drawing on the social, historical, economic, political and cultural forces that shape them. This degree attracts students with a desire to effect real change through experience-based coursework and experiences that bolster portfolios and build resumes. Our location in Virginia’s capital makes this an especially advantageous place to learn about urban and regional studies. We draw on our wealth of community professionals to engage students in and work to create solutions across a range of topic areas, including transportation, housing, environmental management and human-environment interaction. Students frequently complete internships with agencies across our region that often lead to post-graduation employment.
Graduates of the degree often work in public agencies, the nonprofit sector or private businesses in professions such as city planners, policy analysts, city managers, environmental analysts, community organizers, fair housing advocates and more.
