As a student in this program, you will take courses in many different departments within the University to gain the background required to enter the field of sport management. This program requires a minor in general business or a related field within the Haworth College of Business. If you choose to major in sport management at WMU, you will be encouraged to work with area sport organizations, either as part of a class or as a paid or volunteer employee. You will be given multiple opportunities to get involved with sport organizations at the University and other local schools and agencies, as well as professional sport organizations within Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas. As a sport management student at WMU, you will be required to complete a supervised practicum of 225 hours to allow you to get a feeling for the field. Upon completion of your coursework, a 600-hour internship will be required, which may be completed in Kalamazoo or with any sport organization in the world.
You must have successfully completed a United States Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification) Equivalent qualifications may also include a recognized post-secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.
