These studies may emphasize geologic exploration, which uses various approaches in the search for petroleum, natural gas, mineral deposits and groundwater resources. Geology graduates will have the skills to address issues ranging from geologic hazards to issues of pollution, both local and global. With a degree in geology, students can choose a discipline within the geosciences to study in a masters or doctoral program.
