Graduates of WMUs computer science program have worked as entry-level programmers, systems analysts, testers, designers, maintenance programmers and software engineers. They have worked in both government and industry, in computer centers, as independent consultants, in research and development, and as applications programmers. Our students have gone on to graduate school and earned both masters and doctoral degrees in computer science. Graduates of our computer science programs now work around the globe, and some have started their own companies. As a computer science student at WMU, you will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects with local industry, qualify for our departmental scholarships, and become a member of the Sunseeker solar racing team or one of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences 25 other student organizations, including the Computer Club. The Computer Club at Western Michigan University exists to promote a better understanding of computers for both members of the club and members of the WMU community. This goal is achieved through various club projects, member presentations, Linux Install Parties and discussions. Other organizations you might be interested in as a computer science major include Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the International Honor Society for the Computing Sciences; the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 380,000 individual members in 150 countries; and Game Inventors Club, which provides an environment for developing computer games and learning game design and development.
