As a student in this program, youll complete 32 credits of core courses in planning theory, history, techniques, methods, ethics, law and administration. You will also complete 25 credits of required courses from cognate social science disciplines and statistics to gain additional knowledge and skills relevant to planning. Beyond the classroom Clubs for WMU students in community and regional planning include the Western Michigan Association of Planning Students, the Geography Club or Gamma Theta Upsilon, and Students for a Sustainable Earth. You will also have the opportunity to gain pre-professional practical experience through internships. The Department of Geography at Western Michigan University seeks to understand distribution patterns of the worlds physical and cultural features and their implications for better use and management of resources to Foster the acquisition of core knowledge in geography and the applications of such knowledge to real world issues through quality teaching and research. Provide an environment for student professional growth through development of critical thinking, problem-solving and multiple learning skills as well as aesthetic and creative capacities. Raise awareness, appreciation and relevance of geographic dimensions of social, cultural, political, economic and environmental issues of the day in order to address them more effectively. Create and maintain a challenging and intellectually vital geographic learning community that engages students and faculty in continuing discourse, with focus on active, informed, productive, creative, open-minded and ethically responsible professional training and citizenship in a complex, multicultural world.
You must have successfully completed a United States Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification) Equivalent qualifications may also include a recognized post-secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.
