WMU offers communication-related student organizations as general as the communication studies degree, and as specific as you want to get. Comma is a group for all undergraduate students with a communication-related major or minor at WMU. The Public Relations Organization is more focused, and provides opportunities in corporate and organizational communication, event planning, promotions, media relations and other functions of the public relations profession. WIDR, the campus radio station, and the Western Herald, WMUs student newspaper, will keep you on top of campus information and events. Theyre also known well beyond campus for providing students with tremendous real-world experience through high-profile positions. The School of Communication (SOC) will be a nationally recognized center of excellence for Communication instruction, scholarship and creative activity. To achieve this vision, we will foster a community of outstanding scholars, dedicated teachers and socially conscious students committed to the discipline of communication. The School of Communication is committed to excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship and the practice of communication. As teacher-scholars, our purpose is two-fold Develop reflective and skilled communicators who value diversity, community, ethics and critical thinking; and contribute to the research and practice of our discipline with an emphasis on collaboration with local, regional, national and international partners to examine organizational, community, educational and social issues.
