As a WMU student majoring in biology, youll learn about the processes that are fundamental to all living organisms and will have the opportunity to study botany, cell biology, developmental biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, neuroscience, pathology, physiology, virology and zoology. Your coursework will include biological sciences as well as chemistry, physics, math and statistics. Youll complete a capstone experience, which includes a senior seminar class in a specialized area or independent research carried out with a WMU professor. Beyond the classroom WMUs Biology Club provides networking, research and learning opportunities, and its activity calendar offers a mix of events that will allow you to meet others who share your interests. WMU also offers you the opportunity to gain valuable experience outside the classroom by taking part in cutting-edge research involving plants, insects, mammals, birds and microorganisms. The Universitys undergraduate research programs will give you the edge you need by equipping you with real-life, hands-on experience in the subjects you learn about during class. These experiences will not only prepare you for success, but may also aid you in choosing the direction of your career. The Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University encompasses a variety of disciplines that involve the study of living matter in all of its wonderfully diverse forms.
