Because WMUs College of Aviation is more than a flight school, students will study general education subjects, the basic sciences, in addition to aircraft systems, crew resource management, advanced aerodynamics, professional flight, airline operations, management and administration, global navigation and international flight. As an aviation flight science student at WMU, you will benefit from the full university experience collegiate sporting events, more than 300 registered student organizations, and the benefits of attending a top 100 U.S. public university. When its time to take to the skies, youll fly out of Battle Creeks W.K. Kellogg Airport at one of the nation’s top flight schools. Begin your training in the private pilot course on the second longest runway in the state and the third busiest airport in Michigan. The airport is also home to an Air National Guard base, WACO Aircraft Corporation, the Kellogg and Eaton Companies Corporate Flight Departments, and Duncan Aviation. As your skills increase, youll grow accustomed to flying into and out of a wide variety of airports, representing one of the best aviation schools in the country. Further benefits include flying in Michigan, where you will learn to handle a broad range of temperatures and weather systems. Beyond the classroom WMU has teamed with regional aviation companies to provide you with year-round internship opportunities as well as a chance to land summer internships across the country. Internships are available throughout the school year with companies such as Duncan Aviation, the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport and Northern Jet Management. Summer positions include opportunities at several commercial airlines including Delta, Southwest, American and Cape Air, as well as positions at the Chicago Executive Airport and UT Flight. The College of Aviation runs a Cirrus SR-20 fleet, turbine engine testing sites, and aviation maintenance training facilities. Additionally, the College of Aviation has a fleet of Piper PA-44 Seminole, one Piper PA-18 Super Cub, and one American Champion Super Decathlon used for flight training. The facility is in Battle Creek, Michigan at W. K. Kellogg Airport.
