The program includes studies in public history, museum studies, archival management, historic preservation and local history research techniques. Beyond the classroom As a public history student at WMU, you will have the opportunity to join the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. You will also complete an internship and a series of other courses in history and other humanities and social sciences. After you graduate Recent WMU graduates with degrees in public history are working as Archivists Historic preservationists Biographers Museum curators Research assistants Writers The Public History major prepares students for careers in museums, archives, historic sites and organizations, government programs, and consulting. With the aim of making history a useful educational and planning tool in communities, WMUs Public History Program emphasizes varied resources and methodologies, and focuses on regional environments and cultural resources. Students in the Public History curriculum will gain a strong background in history as well as experience in cultural resource management, museum and archive administration, public relations and historic preservation.
You must have successfully completed a United States Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification) Equivalent qualifications may also include a recognized post-secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted. If you dont meet the entry requirements, there may be other programs you are eligible for that can lead you to your preferred program.
