Our department is home to a wealth of expertise, with leading researchers working across diverse approaches to the past, emphasising social, cultural, political and military factors and contemporary heritage practice. In the field of public history, we encourage students to work with both their tutors and the wider community in producing original research projects with real world impact. We offer, too, an impressive sweep of time and place, including ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, the medieval world, the Tudors, the Americas, China and India, global conflict and revolution in the modern era. With this expertise behind us, we can ensure your learning is not only relevant, but cutting edge. Our programme is flexible and allows you to develop your own specialisms as a historian. You will have the chance to choose units covering a variety of different periods, spanning the ancient to the modern world, and a wide geographical range, including Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. If your interests develop strongly in one area, you may choose to graduate with a degree title that reflects this: Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern, or American.

Equivalent qualifications may also include a recognised post- secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.
