Talk to a counsellorThis course prepares learners for the breadth of speech and language therapy (SLT) practice in the continually evolving Health and Social Care sector. You will be part of a small cohort where staff will get to know each learner. Workplace experiences start in the first semester supporting learning that makes links between theory and practice from day one. Each semester includes integrated block workplace experiences. In Year 2 learners are supported to identify a future career focused elective experience, and a five-week full-time placement. Classes are in our purpose-built rehabilitation and assessment facilities. We have excellent links with speech and language therapists working in the NHS, private practice across the North West, charitable organisations, and international institutions. We provide excellent opportunities to gain experience of the extensiveness of modern practice. The University’s leading Allied Health Research unit involves learners and researchers addressing cross disciplinary and international health care. We host the regional Hub of the Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR), the Advancing Dysphagia Practice (ADP) group, and the innovative online learning community of practice ReSNetSLT (Research Support Network). The team regularly offers professional development (CPD) events for practising clinicians which are open to our learners, providing opportunities for novices and professionals to work alongside each other from a wide range of settings.
