About Washington

Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia, also known as D.C. Or Washington, it's the capital city of the United States of America. It is situated on the Potomac River bordering Maryland and Virginia, where the Congress held its first session in 1800. The city is divided into quadrants centered around the Capitol Building, and there are as many as 131 neighborhoods. The National Mall is a large, open park in downtown Washington between the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C., is a national arts center. The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts is the abode of the National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington National Opera and the Washington Ballet.
