About Sunderland
Sunderland is a port city and the largest settlement of the City of Sunderland metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear, North East England. Sunderland rose in importance as a port, trading coal and salt. Shipbuilding on the river started in the 14th century. Sunderland's dialect is known as Mackem, and it has a wide vocabulary as well as unique words and pronunciations that are not found in other dialects. The Sunderland International Airshow is held every year on the last weekend of July. It mainly takes place along the seafront at Roker and Seaburn.
