About the courseThe program includes training in counseling techniques, the use of individual academic and psychological assessment tools, the introduction of behavioral interventions in the school and the home, consultation skills, techniques of program development and evaluation, special education law, and instructional strategies.The Specialist in Education, School Psychology (Ed.S.) is an advanced degree that requires students to have completed both the M.A. and PPS: School Psychology. Completion of the Ed.S. requires coursework focused on identifying and addressing school-related issues that arise during schoolpsychology practice. The School Psychology program at CSUS is approved as a Specialist level program by the National Association of School Psychologists.

As the sixth-largest campus of the 23 state universities in California, the main campus is composed of 305 acres (123 ha) in the city of Sacramento and lies adjacent to U.S. Route 50. The campus is bordered by the American River to the East, Union Pacific Railroad tracks to the West, Folsom Boulevard to the South and H Street to the North. The North end of campus is dominated by the University Arboretum, formerly Goethe Arboretum, and residence halls. Officially "Tree Campus USA", Sacramento State has more than 3,500 trees, with flower gardens, miles of trails stretching along the nearby river parkway, and student housing with recreational areas such as Lake Natoma and Old Sacramento, in addition to its on-campus housing.
