About the course
English as a Foreign Language pre-sessional courses are available for prospective postgraduate students. These courses improve your English language and academic study skills. You can apply online for our year-long (September entry) or 8-month (January entry) programme. We also offer 4-, 6- and 12-week courses which you can find out more about in our English language section. In addition to classes, youll be given an opportunity to immerse yourself in Edinburgh and Scotland’s culture through visits to tourist attractions and historic sites. Well also provide you with practical help to settle into life in a new city. Pre-sessional courses are designed to suit a range of abilities.

Edinburgh Napier University is a public university in Edinburgh, Scotland. Napier Technical College, the predecessor of the university, was founded in 1964, taking its name from 16th-century Scottish mathematician and philosopher John Napier. The technical college was inaugurated as a university in 1992 by Lord Douglas-Hamilton, becoming Napier University. In 2009, the university was renamed Edinburgh Napier University.

Built around the historic 16th-century birthplace and home of our very own John Napier, Merchiston campus is home to our creative, computing and engineering students. Situated in the buzzing neighbourhood of Bruntsfield, independent cafes, restaurants and shops are just around the corner. Merchiston is also home to the Edinburgh Napier Students Association. We also have rehearsal and performance spaces in a converted church just around the corner in nearby Morningside.
