About the course
English as a Foreign Language pre-sessional courses are available for prospective postgraduate students. These courses improve your English language and academic study skills. You can apply online for our year-long (September entry) or 8-month (January entry) programme. We also offer 4-, 6- and 12-week courses which you can find out more about in our English language section. In addition to classes, youll be given an opportunity to immerse yourself in Edinburgh and Scotland’s culture through visits to tourist attractions and historic sites. Napier Technical College, the predecessor of the university, was founded in 1964, taking its name from 16th-century Scottish mathematician and philosopher John Napier. The technical college was inaugurated as a university in 1992 by Lord Douglas-Hamilton, becoming Napier University.
