About the courseHeriot-Watt Mechanical Engineering degreesare ranked 1st in Scotland and top 10 in the UK by theGuardian University Guide 2020. An industrial panel are involved to ensure the course content reflects the changing needs of industry and that our graduates have the knowledge and practical skills required to successfully gain employment. Studentteaching benefits from our strong industrial links, in particular the involvement of the industrial panel in the assessment of 4th year design projects, providinga realisticclient scenario. Programme Structure The first two years of the degreeprovide a grounding in the core disciplines of mechanical engineering, which allows students to make an informed choice of the subsequent options in years 3 and 4. An individual project forms part of Year 4. Students can graduate at the end of year 4 with a BEng Mechanical Engineering, or progress to the MEng programme, if academic grades are suitable. Facilities The University has invested £19m in the development of The Global Research Innovation and Discovery Centre (GRID). Students will benefit from the opportunities offered to teaching and learning by this new facility and the opportunities for working across disciplines. Careers Mechanical Engineering offers an exciting environment where many skills are brought together to create innovative products and the infrastructure and technology for manufacture. Mechanical Engineers play key roles in many sectors and are equipped for a variety ofcareer pathsincluding technical, managerial, financial and research roles.
