About the course
At Jacksonville State Universitys Department of Art, we offer a comprehensive professional education in the study and practice of visual art and design. With two undergraduate degree options, students have the choice of concentrating in one of six areas of discipline including Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, and Printmaking. Preparing our students for a professional career in the arts is of primary importance and we do so by focusing on professional practice, portfolio building, and real-world experiences.Established in 1992, the Visual Arts Society (VAS) of Jacksonville State University supports the Department of Art, and creates interest and involvement in the visual arts in the community. Yearly events sponsored by the VAS and the Department of Art include special receptions for members before exhibitions in Hammond Hall Gallery, a Creole Dinner, and a Gala Buffet and Art Auction. The society also organizes trips to museums and art galleries in Birmingham and Atlanta, and presents art workshops for members. The Visual Arts Society has raised over $120,000 since its inception, and sponsored artist visits and workshops, provided student scholarships, and substantially helped the department purchase equipment.
