Career - Horticultural Tradesperson

Horticultural Tradespersons will Identify and correct soil deficiencies. They will identify and treat pests and diseases affecting plants and will prepare fields, garden beds or lawn areas by cultivating soil and adding fertilisers and compost. They will use growth regulators and other chemicals and also read landscape plans and construct rockeries, paths or ponds. They will plant and transplant flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns and will maintain gardens by fertilising and trimming plants and ensuring that they are receiving adequate water. They will prune trees and hedges to promote their health and increase the attractiveness of plants and will thin out, hoe, irrigate and fertilise crops. They will maintain lawn and grass areas using machinery, fertilisers and chemicals and will maintain service equipment such as tools, lawn mowers and heavy machinery. They will operate and install irrigation and drainage systems and will plan and supervise the daily activities of other workers. Will develop long-term plans, set budgets and manage the financial aspects of the organisation or business.
